The family of Rodina Remegiues ‘Meige’ Anderson announce the peaceful passing of their mother and grandmother on Feb. 13, 2010, after a lengthy illness at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, where she resided for the past seven months.
Born in Reserve Mines, N.S., Oct. 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Gertrude (Turner) MacIntyre.
Meige was a wonderful mother and grandmother whose primary concern was her family. She was a very religious individual, a member of St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen, and former CWL member. She retired in 1983 from St. Joseph’s Hospital where she worked in the SPD department.
Our mother was a strong and caring individual always having a positive attitude towards any adversity in life.
Meige is survived by her daughter, Phyllis MacDougall (Joe), Little Bras d’Or, N.S.; and her son, Keith Anderson and daughter-in-law, Brenda Anderson, both from Glace Bay. Her sisters-in-law, Joyce Anderson, Charlotte Anderson, Phyllis Faulkner and Jean Bayer. Meige is also survived by 12 cherished grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert ‘Fess’ Anderson, daughters, Trudy McEachern, Marilyn Michael, son, Robert Anderson, brothers, Rannie, Roderick Turner, Philip and Msgr. John MacIntyre, sisters, Gertrude Hurley and Sarah Dunphy.
Meige was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In honoring Meige’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19 at St. John’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Donations in Meige’s memory may be made to Seaview Manor, Glace Bay Health Care Foundation or Palliative Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
