Francis Sr., Joseph Louis “Jopy”-Big Joe, 61 of Pictou Landing First Nation passed away April 19, 2013 at the QE11 Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site, Halifax.
Born in New Glasgow he was a son of the late Louis Joseph and Ruby (Knockwood)Francis.
Jopy learned to fish at an early age having been taught by his father, turning his love of fishing into a career for some 23 years. Jopy had many interests and careers, including working as a Constable, Truck Driver, Volunteer Fireman and Bus Driver.
He loved and was loved by his family and friends, nascar racing, country music and was an enthusiastic hunter, and will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his long-time companion Georgina Logan, a daughter Janet Francis, a son Joseph Francis Jr., brothers Kenneth(Alice), Peter, sisters Sarah Clark and Margaret Francis all of Pictou Landing First Nation; many nieces and nephews, a god-child Michelle Francis-Denny, Pictou Landing First Nation.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Douglas, Matthew, Wilfred, Gerald, Larry, Noel and a sister Brenda.
His remains will rest at Our lady of Perpetual help Roman Catholic Church, Pictou Landing First nation after 7pm Tuesday from where
a traditional ceremony will be held from 12 midnite til 2am Thursday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3pm Thursday with Father Gary Macpherson presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
