Arnold Lane
Date de décès : 6 juillet 2008
June 10, 1924 - July 6, 2008 Beloved father, grandfather, friend and public citizen, Dr. Arne Lane passed away peacefully July 6, 2008, surrounded by family. A Canadian through and through, Arne grew up in Montague, Prince Edward Island, attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, completed his university training at Montreal’s McGill University and practised family dentistry in Alberta, where he and wife Jean raised six children and ran a cattle ranch. In the early 1970s, his love of British, European and Canadian history drew him to take ownership of the Royal London Wax Museum here in Victoria. Arne was a recognized leader in dentistry, in politics, in the international cattle industry and in business. He operated large dental practices in both Alberta and B.C., served as president of the Alberta Dental Association, and was a respected instructor at universities in both provinces. His pioneering work in the use of titanium dental implants for tooth root replacement brought him honour as a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry. In public life, he served several terms as president of the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta. In Victoria, he was a driving force in the tourism industry, in the Chamber of Commerce and as a fundraiser for causes such as the University of Victoria, the Cancer Foundation, the CNIB and many others. He was also a distinguished member of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. Arne is survived by Jean Lane (nee Hunter-Duvar) and their six children, Carol Carman (Milton), Ken Lane (Daphne), Lori Mann (David), Janice Williams (Frank), Doug Lane (Lorraine) and Sandy Haegert (Joe). He will also be dearly missed by his second wife, Edith Lane, and his grandchildren Tara (John), Shannon, Kailee, Colleen, Rowan, Morgan, Brodin, Kourtney, Amber, Dreya and Conrad. A celebration of Dr. Lane’s life will be held Saturday, July 19 at 1 p.m. at the Gateway Baptist Church, 898 Royal Oak Avenue in Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations through the Vancouver Foundation directed to the Right Honourable Sir Winston Spenser Churchill Society of B.C. will be gratefully accepted. Dr. Lane was a founding member of the society that supports students of history, political science and international relations through the annual Churchill Communication Challenge. https://vancouverfoundation.ca/donate/donateonline.asp
