John F. Petrie, 44, of Ocean Crest, Glace Bay, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Boston, John was the son of the late Peter Petrie from Dominion and Nellie (Romard) Petrie from New Waterford.
John was an 18 wheeler trucker by trade. He had been working out west for the past couple of years until he became ill. John was an avid sports fan; his favorite teams being the Boston Red Sox and the Pittsburg Penquins. John was a very quiet man who loved his children dearly.
He is survived by his three daughters, Jessica, Brandi, Heather; one son, Sean; four brothers, Peter, Stephen (Lisa), Danny (Mary Kate), Edward (Catherine); two sisters, Mary Jo (Richard), Teresa (Patrick), all in Boston; one grandchild, Baron and many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents and a niece, Danielle.
There will be a visitation at the V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass officiated by Rev. Dan Boudreau will be celebrated on Friday at 3 p.m. in St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, followed by a reception in the church hall. Cremation to follow with interment in St. Eugene’s Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for John, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
