REID, MARGARET WINNIFRED (CALLAGHAN) - It is with sadness, tempered by the knowledge of a life well lived, that we announce the death of our mother, Margaret Winnifred (Callaghan) Reid, widow of the late Robert Reid, on April 23, 2013 at Mount St Joseph, Miramichi. Born in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Ava Winnifred (Hayes) Callaghan, and was the last of her family. She was predeceased by her brother, Frank (Andy) Callaghan; sisters, Mary McAllister and Anne Marie Lindsey; granddaughter, Laura Wallace and sons-in-law Ben Cholody and Philip Hynes. Mum was a graduate of St Vincents H.S. and the Saint John General School of Nursing (1941). She nursed in Yonkers, NY and Saint John. Mum was a woman of great faith and justice, and expressed this with her work for her church, community and family. She was a National Life Member of the Catholic Women League (CWL) having served in a variety of positions culminating with Provincial President and National Family Life Convenor. In 1997, she wrote a history of the CWL in the Saint John Diocese “Gentle Women Brave Soldiers”. Mum is survived by daughters Mary Doherty (Dr. Edward), Catherine Reid and Margaret Wallace (Bruce). She is also survived by five grandchildren: Dr. Teresa Caplice (Michael), Robert Hynes (Beth), Catherine Hynes-Doherty (Dr Jason Bussey), Elizabeth Wallace (Marshall O’Shea) and Maureen Wallace and seven great-grandchildren: Dennis, Sam, Sophie and Layla Caplice, Emmerson and Greyson Hynes and Emmet Wallace-O’Shea.
Visitation will be Friday, April 26, 2013 at Davidson’s Funeral Home, Miramichi from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday April 27, 2013 at 11 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Miramichi.
