Margaret Christine (MacCuspic) Yates, 83, died peacefully at the Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck on Friday, April 26, 2013.
Born in Toronto, Ont. on March 11, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Dan Neil and Annie Margaret (MacLean) MacCuspic.
She is survived by her son, Russell and daughter-in-law, Gillian, Prospect, N.S.; daughters, Audrey, Toronto, Ont. and Lyann, Halifax and her granddaughter, Rebecca Christine, Toronto, Ont.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Edward; siblings, Flora MacKinnon, Malcolm John, Donald R., Mora Hooper and Charlie.
Margie was well-known in South Bar, where she and Eddie lived on MacLeod Street. She had incredible community spirit and was a great people person, who always had an open door. Margie volunteered with Loaves and Fishes at Trinity United Church, Cape Breton Regional Auxiliary, among others. She was a long standing member of UCW, Bethany Unit of Trinity United Church. Margie was a well-loved woman, who enjoyed Celtic music, cribbage, photography, gardening, hiking all over Cape Breton, chatting on the phone with her many friends, and a cuppa tea with visitors. She was loved by many whose lives were touched by her grace.
The family wishes to thank Florence MacCuspic and her extended family. The family also extends sincere gratitude to all the staff at the Alderwood Rest Home, who provided wonderful care.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Sunday, April 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church on Monday, April 29 at 2 p.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake and Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Following the service, a reception will take place at the South Bar Fire Hall.
