WHELTON, JOSEPH JOHN CLARENCE - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joseph Whelton announces the passing of their dear father. Joe's death occurred at Loch Lomond Village on Friday April 26th, 2013. Born in Pokeshaw, N.B., on February 23rd, 1928, he was the son of the late Frank and Evelyn (Cushing) Whelton and beloved husband of the late Thelma (Pearson) Whelton. In his early years, Joe worked for CN railroad and later had a long career in sales. Joe was a loving, kind and generous person. He loved his family and was always there to give his guidance and support. Joe was the Master of “Pay It Forward” and his many acts of kindness helped people over the years. Dad was the president of East Suburban Little League and was responsible for the establishment of Saint John Girls Softball. Dad loved spending time with family and friends at the cottage on the Bellisle Bay and he was a big fan at his children and grandchildren's sporting events. He will always be remembered for his unconditional love for his family. Joe is survived by his loving children Gail McIntyre (Don Cook) of Saint John, Joseph Whelton Jr (Patricia) of Saint John, Shirley Waterman (George) of Lake Echo, N.S., Brian Whelton (Janice) of Saint John and Michael Whelton (Cindy) of Saint John. Grandchildren Brian McIntyre (Brenda), Lori Ann olde Damink (Andrew), Erin Williamson (Kelvin), Scott Whelton, Amy Whelton (Corey), Matthew Whelton, Jesse Waterman, Murray Whelton (Jennifer), Melissa Whelton (Brian), Lauryn Whelton and Madison Whelton; great grandchildren Jackson and Luke McIntyre, Alexa Waterman, Lily and Jack Williamson and Abigail olde Damink as well as, several nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents and loving wife Thelma, he was also predeceased by his brothers Reginald, Robert and Gerald and sisters Edna, Marjorie and Lillian.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation Sunday from 6 to 8 pm and Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Stella Maris Church, Bayside Drive on Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 at 12:05 pm. Interment in St Joseph Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church.
