SYRENNE: Marcel Lucien Syrenne, aged 58, passed away at his home in Swift Current on April 25, 2013. Marcel was born on July 16,1954, to Hermine and Lucien (Zeeb) at the Val Marie Hospital. Marcel is survived by his mother, Hermine, sisters Doris (Bryan) Bennett, and Colette (Warren) Brown as well as nieces and nephews Chantelle (Mark) Adam and baby Bennett, Brant (Barbara) Bennett, and Brennan Bennett, Nolan Brown, Yvonne (Greg) Fidelak and baby Madilyn, and Ramona Brown. He was predeceased by his dad Lucien, in 1997. Marcel attended school in Val Marie and then farmed until his health failed in 2008. Due to his failing health, he moved to Swift Current last year, but still enjoyed seeding and harvest with Claude, Serge and Laurent. Marcel had various interests and hobbies in his lifetime, including wildlife photography, antique collecting and refinishing, hunting, fishing and gardening. The extent of his antique collecting was very evident at his auction sale last year, and we all have many of his wildlife photos. He spent many hours spotting deer and antelope and seemed to know every hill and every gate in the Val Marie area. He spent many hours fishing at the Val Marie dam, the only place to fish, according to him, not like Lac Pelletier, where you catch only minnows. He was proud to have caught a 22 lb Jack a couple of years ago. Marcel was very giving and generous man who loved sharing his greenhouse plants as well as his garden produce, and lately he kept busy buying gifts for his great nephew Bennett and great niece Madilyn. They could do no wrong and he laughed at most everything they did. Marcel also checked in on his Mother everyday since his Dad died, both in Val Marie and Swift Current. Their code was that if her curtains were open, she was ok. He had
coffee almost every morning with his Mother. The prayer service was held on Sunday, April 28 at Warren's Funeral Chapel with Zoria Shumay. The Funeral Mass took place on Monday, April 29, 2013 from the Church of the Nativity in Val Marie with Father Franklin Emereuwa officiating. Special music was sung by Jim Harbor. Readers were Paulette Legault and Theresa Laturnus. Pallbearers were Claude Duquette, Serge Duquette, Laurent Paradis, Eugene Dumont, Mark Laturnus, and Brent Pinel. The eulogy was read by Chantelle Bennett and Yvonne Brown-Fidelak. The gift bearers were Nolan Brown and Brennan Bennett. Candle bearer was Brant Bennett and the Prayer of the Faithful reader was Ramona Brown. The Interment Service took place at the Val Marie Community Cemetery. In Marcel's memory, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
