It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Anna Fletcher, on Monday, May 6, 2013.
Mom was the eldest daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Thompson) Grant.
Mom passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff at Seaview Manor. She was a long time resident of York Street, Glace Bay.
Mom was a member of the Glace Bay Baptist Church and a charter member of the Genevieve Morrison Missionary Group. Mom was a lifetime member of the Jubilee Rebekah Lodge #14 and a past noble grand.
Mom worked with the housekeeping department of the General Hospital where she said that she kept the floors clean and the patients smiling, with her colourful language. Mom collected money, door-to-door, for various charities including cancer, heart and stroke, diabetes, and for over 25 years, Mom sold peanuts every October for the Kidney Foundation.
Mom and Dad loved to dance in their younger years and Mom enjoyed bowling, cards, drives in the car, reading and knitting. Mom also enjoyed watching sports on television: baseball, hockey, curling and golf to name a few. Mom was an avid collector of frogs and her home was filled with all shapes and sizes.
Left to mourn mom’s passing are her sons, Everett (Shirley), Winnipeg, Man., Jimmy (Ann Marie), Dominion and Danny (Judy), The Pas, Man.; her daughters, Kathy Delmaire, Montreal, Que., and Cynthia (Henry) Boutilier, at home. She leaves her sisters, Harriett in Halifax, Patsy and Helen and brother, Shep (Doris) Grant in town.
There are nine grandchildren, Robbie, Chris, Frederick, David, Shellie, George, Terence, Michelle, Mary Elizabeth and 16 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kieran, Nicholas, Cameron, Eddy, Richard, Myra, Marissa, Ethan, Jackson, Emma, Alex, Akasha, Paige, Lilly and Griffin.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by her husband, Russell Fletcher (N.N.), grandson, Daniel Delmaire, granddaughter, Lynda Boutilier, son-in-law, Gus Delmaire, brothers, Earl, Buddy and sister, Ruth Frost.
Visitation is Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The Rebekah Lodge will hold a prayer service at 1:45 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home. The funeral service officiated by Pastor Gary Dillon is Friday, 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel followed by a reception. Cremation to take place after the funeral service with interment at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery.
