It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Viola MacDonald Hutchison, age 89. Viola, formerly of Steel’s Hill, Glace Bay, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Taigh Na Mara Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past four years.
Born in Glace Bay, Viola was the daughter of the late Thomas and Victoria (MacDonald) MacDonald.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. Viola and her husband, Cy operated Cy’s Dairy on Steele’s Hill for 20 years. She enjoyed dancing and she would often go to the Seniors Social Club in New Waterford. She also enjoyed playing darts and bowling. Viola was a very social lady.
Viola is survived by her second husband, Thomas ‘Tom’ Hutchison, a resident of Taigh Na Mara; loving daughter, Kay (Larry) Ryan, Glace Bay; son, Allan (Sherine) McDonald, Belle River, Ont.; brother, Thomas ‘Gus” (Josephine) MacDonald, Ont.; sisters, Twin (Ken) Tutty, Glace Bay, Theresa (Whyman) Joyce, Dartmouth, Dora MacDonald, Michigan; cherished grandchildren, Allan Lee, Margo, Larry, Allan; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Allan ‘Cy’ MacDonald, sisters, Julia, Charlotte, Mary, Lizzie, Lexie, one in infancy, brothers, Roddie, Rannie and Neil.
Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Visitation will be held Monday, May 13, 2013, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Viola’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
