Ronald Kelly
KELLY, RONALD - Ronald William Kelly of Loggieville passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at the age of 82 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Born on June 15, 1930, the oldest son of Cyril and Mary (Hurley) Kelly of Loggieville. Ronnie acquired his early education locally before graduating from St. Thomas Academy. Ronnie served with the Canadian Officers Training Corps in Borden, ON before returning to St. Thomas University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Ronnie was a lifelong business man in his home community, starting in auto salvage before moving into the glass business. He owned and operated R.W. Kelly and Sons Ltd. and R.W. Kelly Thermo. Ronnie was known for his quick wit, a hearty laugh while telling stories in the back office, as well as his vast repertoire and use of expletives. He was also a kind man who would help those who needed a hand. Ronnie also had a profound interest in politics and the NDP Party, serving as one of their ghost writers for many years and in 1965, offered his name as a running candidate. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Theresa (Lanteigne) Kelly, his son, Little Jack Kelly, his sister, Donnes Keating and his brothers-in-law, Billy Keating and Ralph Harrigan. A member of St Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church of Loggieville, he is survived and will be greatly missed by one daughter, Tracy Kelly of Moncton; three sons, Ted (Marion) of Douglastown, Gordon (G.P.) of Napan Bay and Mark (Bonnie Jardine) of Loggieville; one sister, Rosemary Harrigan of Dalhousie; seven grandchildren, Taylor, Jensen, Cody, Brett, Alyssa, Olivia and Katie; and many nieces and nephews.
At the request of the family, there will be no visitation for Mr. Kelly. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10am at St Michael’s Basilica with Father John Fraser officiating. Burial will be in St Andrew’s R C Cemetery. In his memory, donations made to Mount St Joseph or Shriners Hospital Memorial would be appreciated.
