Jennie Miller
MILLER, JENNIE W. - 1925-2013 - The death of Jennie W. Miller occurred on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Jennie was the loving wife of the late Reginald J. Miller. She was born in St. Martins, New Brunswick, the youngest child of the late Henry Dunlop and Rebecca Black. She graduated from the Saint John School of Nursing in 1947. Jennie was employed at the DVA Hospital, the Saint John General Hospital and Saint John Regional Hospital, where she worked on the Rehab and Rheumatology Unit until her retirement. Jennie was a dedicated and caring nurse. She so impressed the Charge Nurse on 4C Centre at the old General Hospital, Anna Doran, that Jennie was invited to supper to meet her son, Reg. This invitation resulted in a long and happy marriage that produced seven children. Jennie was a loving mother to Anne (William) Stroud, Susan Gorham, Linda (Donald) LeBlanc, Jane (Scott) Johnson, James Miller, Gary Miller and Paul Miller. Jennie took great pleasure in spending time with her ten grandchildren: Matthew Stroud, Anna Stroud and Robert Stroud, Leah Gorham, Ben Gorham and Kevin Gorham, Sarah (Jay) MacDonald, Peter LeBlanc, Mark LeBlanc and Christopher LeBlanc. Jennie also loved her great-grandchildren: Eli, Eve and Ian. In addition to her beloved husband, Reg, Jennie was predeceased by her siblings: Eric (Blanche) Dunlop, Annie (Cecil) Jackson, Edna (Fred) Seeley, (Harry) Bamford, Laura (Stephen) Stephenson and Ken (Nora) Dunlop; and her son-in-law, Stewart Gorham. As a child, Jennie enjoyed swimming in the Bay of Fundy, skating, sledding and dressing her cat in doll's clothes. Jennie was an excellent student with a wonderfully vivid imagination. Her story about the tribulations of her Irish ancestors during the Famine years moved her teacher to tears until Jennie explained that she had made up the whole tale. As a mother, she regaled her children with stories about imaginary creatures, such as Tiger Cat and the Paper Bag Tourists. Throughout her life, Jennie enjoyed gardening, reading, doing crosswords, singing, whistling along with her favourite tunes and watching the Waltons. She and Reg took great pleasure in spending summers at their trailer at the T.N.T. Campground in Coles Island. Jennie was a person of great faith. She was a long-time parishioner of St. Joachim's Church. Despite numerous health-related challenges later in life, Jennie maintained her cheerful optimism, positive outlook and sense of humour. Jennie's family is deeply appreciative of the excellent care provided by her family physician, Dr. Allan Rombaut, and the Extramural Hospital team.
Jennie is resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visiting on Sunday, May 19 between 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Joachim's Church on Monday, May 20 at 12:00 noon with a reception to follow at the church. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date. The family would appreciate donations made to the Saint Joachim's Church Building Fund, the Extramural Program or the Alzheimer's Society of NB. www.fundyfuneralhome.com
