It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Isabel MacLean Bowen on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, NS
Born in Glace Bay on June 12, 1920, Isabel was the daughter of the late Angus and May McLean.
During the war Isabel graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Glace Bay and practiced in Halifax and then at Ste Anne's veterans hospital in Ste Anne de Belleview, QC. She took a break from nursing in 1947 to marry and raise four children. In 1964 she returned to nursing at Ste Anne's veterans hospital, and eventually retired to live in Glace Bay. She spent her final three years in the loving care of the staff at Seaview Manor.
Predeceased by her husband Stan Bowen, she is survived by her children, Bob (Anne) Bowen of Comox, BC, Marjorie (John) Scott of Uxbridge, ON, Gord (Barb) Bowen of Hudson, QC and Sandy Bowen of Valleyfield QC, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marjorie Petite of Glace Bay, NS and brother, Murdoch (Joan) McLean of Summerside, PE, and several nieces and nephews.
Isabel’s family are honouring her wishes. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 27, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. A luncheon will follow the service with interment at St. Anne's Cemetery.
