FOX, SONYA - It is with great sadness that the family of Sonya Elizabeth Fox of West Saint John announce her passing which occurred peacefully at the SJRH on May 23, 2013. Sunny, as she was known to family and friends, was born on May 7, 1938, daughter of the late Hilton M. and Kathleen G. (Raymond) Smythe and the late Marie (Butler) Smythe. She is survived by her sons, Michael Fox (Judy) of Saint John and Robert Fox (Lou Anne) of Toronto as well as her beloved grandson Daniel. Sunny is also survived by her brothers David Smythe (Carol-Anne) of Miramichi, Ray Thrope, sisters Pat Nolan (Larry) and Mary Sedore all of Ontario. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and step-mother, Sunny was predeceased by her brother Robert Smythe (Linda). Sunny graduated from Saint John Vocational School and was involved with its alumni. For many years she worked for School District 8 as a bus driver. In her retirement she was able to enjoy her love of animals by pet sitting for many people. Sunny also enjoyed playing darts, was a member of the City & District Dart League and loved to go fishing with her grandson. She was also a member of Branch # 69 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
The family will receive visitors at Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue on Sunday, May 26th from 5 to 9pm. A legion service will take place at the funeral home at 7pm on Sunday evening. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Castle Funeral Home on Monday, May 27th at 11:00am. A reception will follow the service at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #69. A family interment will take place later at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In keeping with Sunny’s love of animals, the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Saint John Animal Rescue League. www.castlefh.com
