Ronald 'Rannie' Ellsworth

Ronald 'Rannie' Ellsworth

Date de naissance : 30 décembre 1930

Lieu de décès : Glace Bay
Date de décès : 23 mai 2013

Ronald ‘Rannie’ Joseph Ellsworth, 82 of Glace Bay passed peacefully in to the arms of our loving God on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay.
Rannie was born on Dec. 30, 1930 to the late Michael and Gertrude (Thompson) Ellsworth. He was educated in Dominion schools, where he had many friends, playing basketball and a variety of other sports.
Rannie met Josephine Gallant, from Reserve Mines. They travelled to Toronto where they married on Sept. 3, 1960. During the decade they lived in the big city, Rannie worked on TV valves for General Electric.
In 1968, they returned to Cape Breton Island, purchased/built their home in Westmount. In 1969 they welcomed their eldest daughter Andrea Nowell Kathleen Ellsworth. She now resides in Winslow, Maine with her 13 year old son, Avery Ronald Mills, who is blessed with many fond memories of “Poppie “. In two weeks Andrea will marry her fiancé, Richard Martelle, who was able to meet Rannie on a trip to Cape Breton last summer. A second daughter, Carrie Renee Leeann Ellsworth, joined the family in 1971. Renee lives in Calgary, Alta. and enjoyed several visits from her dad over the years. Renee remembers her dad’s loving words to always “make your own judgment”.
Known to his coworkers as “Ron”, he worked for the Sydney Steel Plant for several years. His job with Canada Post led him to retirement after 25 years of service. Ron loved participating in the local bowling and curling clubs. He particularly enjoyed travelling to Halifax for the tournaments with his buddies. He was always involved in his girl’s activities and the Fulton Avenue house served as a place where all were welcome.
Rannie loved fishing trips to Loch Lomond, long walks through Peter’s Field and feeds of lobster and crab at his sister, Susie’s home. Probably his favourite adventure was his visits to CIBC in Sydney River. He loved giving “his girls” a hard time and appreciated even more if they gave it back.
Rannie was predeceased by his brother, Everett Ellsworth; brothers-in-law, Joe Gallant and Lindy Syms. He was also predeceased by his sisters- in-law, Adeline Gallant, Winifred Gallant, Dorothy Gallant, Muriel MacNeil, Evelyn Syms and Velma Ellsworth. Ron was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Owen Mills.
In addition to his loving wife and children, Rannie is survived by his sister, Caroline ‘Susie’ Royal and her husband, Dannie of Dominion; brothers, Basil Ellsworth, Lennie Ellsworth and his wife, Ginger of Ontario and Wendell Gallant his brother-in-law, who lives in Dartmouth. Rannie will also be missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
He was grateful to his wonderful neighbours back in Westmount, especially Murray and Kim Lewis who he looked at not only as friends but as an extension of his family. A special “thank you” to his niece, Lenore Sprake for always being there as an advocate and support for Rannie and Josie.
In addition, the family wishes to thank Dr Cohen, the many doctors, nurses and staff at Victoria Haven, the Glace Bay Hospital and Cape Breton Regional for his care over the past 2 1/2 years. Thank you for taking the time to get to know and care for our husband, dad, grandfather and friend.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay at a later date.
Online condolences to the family can be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
