Helen BAIRD
CARIBOU ISLAND – Helen (Hansford) Baird, 91, of Caribou Island, Pictou County, passed over on May 30, 2013 in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Pictou on August 31, 1921, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary Jane (Sencabaugh) Hansford.
Mom was a resident of Caribou Island for 57 years, moving there from Lyons Brook when Dad took over the Lighthouse Keepers job from his father Charles Baird. Mom and Dad continued to live on the island after the lighthouse was automated, and purchased the house which they moved up the road to the Gull Rock Farm.
She is survived by her son, Edward (Sandra), Three Brooks; as well as by daughters, Barbara D’eon, Antigonish; Grace (Charles) Whitford, Porter’s Lake; and Margie (John) Anderson, Stellarton; daughter-in-law, Carol (Bill) Dawson, Central Caribou; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sisters, Doris Sutherland, Caribou River and Elizabeth Grant, Abercrombie.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Archibald “Archie” Baird; son, Wayne and granddaughter, Myrna Baird; brothers: Wilbur “Ted”, Harry, Ernest “Ernie”, Edward “Eddy”, Lewis “Dan”, John “Jackie”; sisters: Harriet “Hattie” Schlums, Edith “Edie” Boehner, Dorothy “Dolly” Dwyer, Mildred “Mim” Davidson.
At Mom’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Waterside Cemetery.
