James Joseph Poirier, of Tillock Drive, Sydney, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, in the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Stella Poirier and adopted parents, the late Leonie and Elizabeth Chiasson.
For many years, James resided in Toronto where he worked at Bristal Plating. He later moved to Cheticamp. After living there for many years, he moved to Sydney to be closer to his two daughters. James made many friends in Sydney. He enjoyed bowling, walking on the boardwalk, going for long drives and stopping by Tim Hortons for a coffee.
Surviving are his daughters, Charlene (Kenny Jones) and Darlene (Clem Smith); halfbrothers, Gordon and Albert Mickey; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and special friends, Janine Poirier, Louise Burton and Sheila and Wayne Holt.
James was predeceased by his son, Jimmy; sisters, Antoinette and Marie and brothers, Leo, Wilfred, Lubie, Joseph, Charlie and Paul.
There will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp on Thursday, June 6, 2013. Interment in the parish cemetery.
