Vida Mae Anthony, 87, formerly of Lingan Road, Sydney, passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on Saturday, June 1, 2013, at The Magnolia, Enfield.
Born Nov. 2, 1925, in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Horatio and Margaret (Cuff) Champion. Vida loved traveling the back roads of Cape Breton, fishing with Edmund, the love of her life or visiting her family across Canada. When she was at home, you could find her in the kitchen cooking, sewing or playing cards with her many, many friends. Her heart and home were always open. May her journey to her new life be as rich and beautiful as the quilts she left behind for her loved ones.
Vida is survived by her sons, Bradford (Mary) Anthony, Edmonton, Alta., Gary Anthony, Calgary, Alta.; daughter, Pamela (Tom) Dalziel, Lantz, N.S.; brother, William ‘Bill’ (Sandra) Champion, Sydney; grandchildren, Janea (Jeff), Alberta; Brendan, N.S.; Jeffrey (Jenny), B.C.; great-grandchildren, Easton and Cooper, British Columbia.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Edmund S. Anthony; sister, Pauline MacDonald; brothers, Melton, Edwin and Howard Champion; grandson, Jared Anthony.
Vida’s family wishes to thank the staff at Townsview Estates and The Magnolia for their support in the last few years. All are welcome to attend a reception to celebrate Vida’s life at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at S. W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A private family interment will be held in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Vida’s memory to Trans Canada Trail are welcomed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro.
