COWAN: Donald Edward age 77 of Swift Current, SK passed away June 2, 2013 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. A Prayer service was held June 5, 2013 at 7:00 pm from the Chapel of Warren's Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass was held June 6, 2013 at 1:00 pm from Christ The Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Prince Kurisinkal officiating. The Pianist was Marlene Dolter; Christ the Redeemer Church Choir was also present for the service. The eulogy was given by Don's nephew Ed Lang. Ushers were nephew Doug Lang and Warren's Funeral Home staff. The urn bearer was Dick Warren. Burial will take place in Memory Garden's Cemetery at a later date. Don is survived by his wife Joyce A. Cowan; his five children: Donna (Flynn) Humphreys, Gord (Shelley) Cowan, Bryan (Paddy) Cowan, Melanie (Roderick) Knox, and Marilyn (Todd) Harty. His eight grandchildren: Jennifer Humphreys, Kari (Vance) Oster, Kayla Knox, Mitchell Knox, Liam Knox, Joshua Knox, Travis and Lauren Higgins. Don is predeceased by parents Norbert (Cy) and Nancy Cowan, mother-in-law; Pauline Slonski, sister; Marlene Lang, brother; Doug Cowan, and grandson; Mitchell Edward Cowan. Don attended school at St. Patrick's School in Swift Current, SK. He was united in marriage to Joyce A. Slonski September 3, 1956 in Prince Albert, SK. Don was owner and operator of Cowan Oil & Fuel (Cy's Service) and then was employed at Warren's Funeral Home - Memory Gardens Cemetery. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Swift Current Kinsmen, and the Swift Current Hockey Association. Don enjoyed hockey, golf, camping, fishing, hunting and bird watching. Family was everything to Don, his greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren. In Don's memory donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Saskatchewan Lung Association. Warren's Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
