Bridgewater/New Glasgow - Arthur Wells Smiley, 83, Bridgewater/New Glasgow, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Valley View Villa in Riverton, Nova Scotia. Born in Liverpool, NS, he was the son of the late Arthur and Grace (Smith) Smiley. Arthur was a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force in his early years. He was also a 1st Class Stationary Engineer by trade working in various jobs throughout his career. In later years he was a real estate agent in the Bridgewater area until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Lantz), Valley View Villa; son, David (Pamela Pettipas), New Glasgow; daughter, Darlene (Alex) MacDonald, granddaughters, Alisha and Heather MacDonald, Saltsprings; step-granddaughters, Allison and Shannon Hallett, New Glasgow; mother-in-law, Rena Lantz, New Glasgow; sisters: Joan (Marty) Lebowitz, California; Jeannine Byrne, New York; Joyce Buckley, Ottawa. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service at Arthur’s request. Interment will take place at Seaside Cemetery in Brooklyn, Queens County, at a later date. Donations in Arthur’s memory can be made to the Canadian Alzheimer Society. The family would like to thank all who helped and cared for Arthur through his difficult journey over the last fifteen months. Arrangements are under the direction of the R.H.
