Calgary/Trenton - Ross Dennison Jenkins (March 26, 1931, Trenton, N.S. - June 5, 2013, Calgary, Alberta). We mourn the loss of our dear father, Ross Jenkins. Ross was born in Trenton, NS, the oldest of 12 children. He left his home to join the Canadian Armed Forces at the tender age of 17. This phase of Dad’s life took him across Canada, to Europe, the Middle East, and to Africa. With great pride and devotion, Dad would recall his 34-year military service and entertain listeners with stories from his tours of duty. Dad’s love for Canada was expressed in crystal clear terms throughout his life. Ross met Veronica while stationed in Edmonton and they were married in 1951. Their 49-year union ended with Mom’s untimely passing in November 2000. Dad is predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Jean, his sisters, Eleanor MacDonald and Judy Crandell, and brothers, Robert and John. Sisters and brothers: Elsie (Baxter) Ryan, Gladys Lorimer, Foster (Dorothy) Jenkins, Doris (Roger) Dixon, Linda (Hugh) MacDonald, Debbie Edwards, and Dan (Susan) Jenkins, survive their brother Ross. Dad’s children, Jeanne McInnis (Gary), Marilyn Dickson (David), and Donald Jenkins (Erica), and his grandchildren Aubrey, Christine, DJ, Tommy and Alex will be forever thankful for memories with Dad at the cottage in Toney River or with Dad at his home in Calgary. The long-anticipated summer visits to the cottage became more of a difficulty for Dad as his health continued to suffer due to diabetes and heart disease. Ross may have travelled to many places in this wonderful world and called the west his home since 1982. However, he is returning to Trenton, the place that he always spoke of with such warmth and longing. Dad will rest at Hillside Cemetery beside his family members. Visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, from 7-9 pm at the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, High Street, Trenton. A private graveside service will be on Wednesday.
