Harold "Hal" Calvert
CALVERT, HAROLD "HAL" H. - Harold "Hal" H. Calvert, aged 90, passed away peacefully at the Grey Bruce Regional Hospital, Owen Sound, ON on June 7, 2013. Hal was formerly of St. Thomas, ON. Born July 17, 1922 in England, Hal grew up in Alma (Waterside) N.B., the son of the late Harold and Peggy Calvert. He served with the New Brunswick Rangers and The Cameron Highlanders during World War Two. In St. Thomas, he worked with various construction companies and retired after many years with the Conrail railroad. He was a long time member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas serving as elder, usher co-ordinator, member of the Men’s Brotherhood, co-founder and member of the Fellowship Group. His carpentry expertise was lent to many projects within the church and the community. Hal was a quiet, hardworking, caring person whose many acts of love, kindness and devotion have gone unnoticed by most, but felt by many. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his daughter Kimberley Calvert of Owen Sound, his two brothers, Frank and Bill Calvert of New Brunswick, god-daughter Georgi Gardner of Chatham, ON, Georgie, Harriette, Rose and Tyler Calvert of England and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the loving husband of the late Eleanor Calvert (née Palmer) of St. Thomas. He is predeceased by his brother Peter and his sisters Mary, Jen and Ethel and Terry Calvert of Watford, England.
As per his wishes, no visitation or funeral will take place. Celebrations of his life will be held in Owen Sound and in New Brunswick at a later date.
