Elsie Yorke
Yorke (Corbett), Elsie R. – 80, of Five Islands passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Williams Country Homes, Hilden following a lengthy illness. Born in Five Islands, she was a daughter of the late Hilbert and Luella (Boyd) Corbett. Elsie was a graduate of Provincial Normal College, Truro. She was a school teacher for 35 years, having taught at Moose River, Masstown, Bridgewater, Dartmouth and finally at Victoria Street Elementary in Truro for 20 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the Peniel United Church, Five Islands and the U.C.W. She is survived by step-daughters, Ellen Stetkiewicz (David), West Warwick, Rhode Island; Holly Brown (Paul), Taunton, Mass.; Dawn Cormier (Richard), Shediac; step-sons, Walter Yorke, Jr. “Bud”, Lower Five Islands; Craig Yorke (April), Lower Five Islands; sisters, Elizabeth MacAloney, Five Islands; Helen Ettinger, Shubenacadie; Ethel MacKinnon (Elmer), Lower Onslow; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter “Buddy” Yorke in 1995. Family and friends are invited to the Corbett Family Home in Five Islands from 6- 8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2013. Funeral 2 p.m. on Saturday [June 8, 2013] at the Peniel United Church, Five Islands, Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
