It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of James ‘Jim’ Murphy age 66 of Glace Bay. Jim passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Toronto, Jim was the son of the late Thomas and Marion (Litt) Murphy.
He was employed as a propane delivery and service technician. Jim was a member of K.O.C. He also was a member of Branch 3 crib league. He loved playing golf, darts, cards, crib and baseball. He enjoyed to read, was an amazing pool player and taught his daughter everything she knows about the game. He spent many years fishing with his children and grandchildren and took great pleasure in spending quality time with all of them. He spent a lot of time in his garden. Jim was a kind and gentle soul who would do anything for anyone. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. To know him was to love him.
Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Carol Ann (Haley); daughter, Crystal (Chris) MacSween; son, Adam Murphy (Amy Prince); cherished grandchildren, Raven, Haley, Olivia; sister, Barb Murphy; brother, Donnie Murphy. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Shirley (Fred) Parsons, Delores (Earl) Weyman, and nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Thomas J. and Marion E. (Litt) Murphy.
Visitation for Jim will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Cremation will follow. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013 at St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church foyer. Interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Center.
