Mary Whitewood, age 82 of Nolan’s Lane, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Mary ‘Mamie’ (MacIntyre) Morrison.
Mary was a member of St. Anne’s Church and very devoted to her faith. At one time she was involved with the cursillo movement. Mary used to own and operate Mary’s Gift Shops, both in New Waterford and Glace Bay. She loved going for drives and was a big fan of old-time country music. Mary was also very interested in politics and current news from all over the world. But mostly, she will be remembered as a very generous and caring lady who loved her family.
Mary is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Francis Whitewood; three daughters, Charmaine Pickup (Lorne), Glace Bay, Joanne MacKinnon (Alex), Northside East Bay, Eileen Pickup (Mike), Tower Road; one son, Glenn Whitewood (Calgary); two sisters, Anne (Bill) Squires, Ontario, Delores Morrison, Sydney; two brothers, Ambrose Morrison (Frances), Ontario, Roy Morrison (Shirley), Glace Bay; four grandchildren, Wesley, Joey Pickup, Cecil White, Katie Hillman and three great-grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her first husband in 1966, Buddy Pickup and a brother in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for Mary, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
