Murchie Tompkins
TOMPKINS, Wm. MURCHIE - At the Edmundston Regional Hospital, June 16, 2013, Mr. Wm. Murchie Tompkins of Anfield passed away at the age of 96. He was married to the former Dorothy Harding. Born at Anfield in 1917, he was a son of the late Earlin and Lillian (Johnson) Tompkins. A carpenter by trade and with a 26-year career as Forest Ranger, Mr. Tompkins was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Royal Canadian Corps Signals. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Plaster Rock Branch # 29 and a member of Tobique Lodge # 48, F. & A.M. He attended St. George’s Anglican Church of Plaster Rock where he served as warden and a lay reader for many years. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Gwendolyn Tompkins (John MacKillop) of Moncton, three sons, Eugene (Cathy) of BC, Ronald (Sonia) of Aroostook and Allan (Tracy) of Mallorytown, Ontario, one sister, Lorna Gallop of Arthurette, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by granddaughter, Susan Rasmussen, brothers George and Charlie and sisters, Wilda DeLeavey and Ina Crawford.
Resting at St. George’s Anglican Church, Plaster Rock where visiting hours will be Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. His funeral service will be held Thursday, June 20th at 2 p.m. from the church with The Ven. Richard Steeves officiating. Interment will follow in the Plaster Rock Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
