Irene Neil
Lieu de naissance : Sydney Mines
Date de naissance : 25 octobre 1929
Lieu de décès : North Sydney
Date de décès : 24 juin 2013
On Monday, June 24, 2013, Irene Gertrude Neil passed away peacefully at her residence with her family by her side. She fought a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Irene was born on Oct. 25, 1929, in Sydney Mines, the daughter of the late Richard and Martha (Confiant) Cox.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Irene formerly lived most of her life on King Street in Sydney Mines and later remarried and moved to North Sydney, where she resided the past 39 years.
Known as “I” by most of her siblings, Irene was always there to listen, put the teapot on, maybe give some advice and a lecture on the side. Her kitchen was always the gathering place for everyone. Mostly a homemaker, she was a very hard worker at a very young age taking care of her parents and siblings. As children there was never a missed Sunday that we didn’t all pile in the car with Grannie and go to Sydney to visit her sister, Marion.
Irene’s pastimes included grocery shopping, driving her car as much as she could, baking and occasionally going to the casino. Hope you get the seven’s, Mom! Always a caregiver to somebody, she was devoted to her family and always gave a lending hand when she could. She will be sadly missed by all.
Irene is survived by her two daughters, Shirley Ford and Mary Lou Ford; her grandson, Rob (Colleen) MacKinnon; her siblings. David (Nellie), John Cox, Harold (Jane) Cox, Clifford (Cathy) Cox, Michael Cox, Louis Cox, Bob (Bridget) Cox and Marion MacKinnon, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Besides her parents, Irene was predeceased by her first husband, John Ford and her second husband, James Neil, by her three daughters, Diane, Ann and infant Mary, as well as two sisters, Ella MacKinnon and Caroline Holyoke.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass for Irene will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
