Stellarton: Phyllis Eileen Gunning age 91 of the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow and formerly of Pleasant Street, Stellarton passed away on Tuesday July 2, 2013 in the Manor. Born in Halifax she was a daughter of the late John R. and Annie (Foster) Christie. Phyllis was a resident of Stellarton for thirty years, she was a guest of Glen Haven Manor for the past four years. She worked for a number of years for Hamilton’s Factory in Pictou. She was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Pictou Landing. Phyllis cherished spending time with her family and friends, she also enjoyed attending musical concerts. She was known for her baking, knitting, gardening and especially her wit. Surviving are her children : Linda (Wayne) Madore of Greenhill, Carole (Milton) Scanlan of Greenhill, James (Carolyn) Gunning of Bay View, Donald (Ann) Gunning of Lyons Brook; Grandchildren: John Gunning, Kim Hill, Dan Scanlan, Shawna Ardoin, Jill Madore, Jennifer Madore, David Gunning, Julie Gunning, Matt Gunning. Foster grandchildren; Blair Gero and Leslie Gero; 18 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a sister Jean Gunning of Elliot Lake, Ont; a brother Walter Christie of Victoria , B.C. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Wendell, sisters; Ethel Daley, Hilda Smith and Doris Morris; brothers: John Christie, Herbert Christie and Gordon Christie. The family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Thursday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, 18 Acadia Ave., Stellarton.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 2 P.M. from the H.C.MacQuarrie Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Fergie MacKay officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only please.
