Douglas Eldridge MacLeod
MacLeod, Douglas Eldridge -84 of Millbrook First Nation, Nova Scotia. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, the late Douglas Eldridge Macleod on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. Our dad passed away at home, with his daughter Natalie and son-in-law Ricky Gloade. Our dad passed away after a few years of dealing with Alzheimer’s. Born in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Douglas John and Catherine (Wright) MacLeod. Our father served overseas in the Korean War (Gunner MacLeod). Our father was a top knotch High Pressure Welder, working throughout Canada in the Locks (Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, Lake Superior, etc). dad was also a mechanic. The last job dad was employed was at Faulkner’s Scrap Yard in Welland, Ontario, where he lived for many years.
He is survived by his daughters Juanita Kabez, Gail (Scott) Brennand, Leanna (Alex) MacDonald, Natalie (Ricky) Gloade. Janice (Rory) Blenkhorn; Step-son Jason (Francine Dennis) Bernard; Foster-daughter Pamela Seeton; grandchildren Sherrie Murray, Justin MacLeod, Alex-Joe MacLeod, Richard Gloade, Frank Gloade, James Gloade, Danielle Dawn Gloade, Alvin Pierro-Gloade, Jeremy MacDonald, Victoria MacFayden, Jessica Bernard, Winter Sack, Goellann Sack; First great-grandson Colby Gloade, Aiden Gloade, Hannah MacLeod, Jacob MacDonald, Ethan Macleod, Nora Sack, Jordan Murray, Ellie Gloade, Ansley MacLeod; Godchild Valerie Rector (McNutt); Godmother Catherine Paul; special friend Ms. Higgins; brothers and sisters (Macleod’s James St.), dad’s twin brother Weldon Alexander MacLeod, favorite sister Reta Simpson.
He was predeceased by his former wife Native Activist, (Nora Madeline Bernard); son-in-law David Kabez.
No visitation by family request. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Funeral service will take place on Friday, July 5th at 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Millbrook. Father Dariusz Miskowicz will officiate with burial at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Millbrook. No flowers by family request.
