Lieu de décès : Kamloops, Colombie Britannique, Canada
Date de décès : 2 juillet 2013

It is with great sadness we say good-bye to John "Jack" Peter Shippobotham who died in Kamloops, BC on July 2, 2013 - just short of his 80th birthday. Three weeks ago, Jack was attacked by another resident in the home and suffered a broken nose, hip and pelvis. Quite healthy outside of his dementia, Jack died of complications resulting from these injuries.

Predeceased by his mother Mabel (1941), son Patrick (1965), father William (1986), step-mother Jean (2004) and numerous in-laws.

Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vera; daughters Shannon (David) Read of Wolfville, NS; Moneca Jantzen (formerly Sandy Shippobotham) of Kamloops; sister Patricia McCarthy of Vancouver; grand-daughters Emily Read, Allison Read, Meghan (Mike) Todd and Brianna Crawford and great-grandson, Liam Read (finally a boy!); as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Born in Vancouver, BC on July 26, 1933, Jack started working at a young age delivering the Vancouver Sun on his bicycle. He grew up in Point Grey and enjoyed participating in varsity basketball and rugby over the years. He attended UBC where he was a proud fraternity brother and acquired his B. Comm. He also acquired his CGA. He began his career at Carling O'Keefe in Vancouver and married his wife, Vera. They began their family in Vancouver, eventually getting transferred first to Regina, SK and then Toronto, ON.

A dozen years were spent living in Mississauga where they enjoyed curling, tennis, swimming and gardening. Years were spent ferrying his daughters between various pools for swim practice and swim meets and later to regattas and practices when his girls switched to flatwater paddling. Jack served as President of the Mississauga Aquatic Club, where he made many significant contributions including introducing their first full time paid coach.

Career-wise he left Canadian Breweries and worked briefly for Motorola before becoming Treasurer of Henninger Breweries in Hamilton, ON. He enjoyed being involved in the startup of this brewery as he got to do much more than just crunch numbers - everything from package design to the layout of the office. His next significant career move took him to Edmonton, AB with what is now The Grocery People. Jack and Vera moved back to BC in the late 80's, settling in Kamloops. It was here Jack came full circle and resumed his career as a paper carrier although without his bicycle!
