Born May 19, 1939 in Wishart, Saskatchewan. Passed away in the arms of his family June 29, 2013 in Kamloops, B.C.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eileen; son Kevin & his wife Kim & their sons Karson & Kolton; daughter Kim Fitzpatrick & Gordy Van Vliet & her son Keaton & daughter Megan; his brother Bernie & his wife Bernice (Saskatoon) & their family; his sister Joyce Bohay & her husband Orest (Kamloops) & their family. Also survived by many, many friends & relatives.
Predeceased by his Mom (Tina), Dad (John) & Brother Ray.
Merv left home in 1954 at the age of 15 to enter the working world in Kitimat, B.C. There, in 1959, he met the "girl for him", I-Lan (Eileen) & they married May 4, 1963. Kevin was born in Kitimat in 1964 & then in Vancouver, they welcomed Kim in 1969.
Realizing the importance of educating himself, he earned his trade as a plumber & he worked in that until 1969. Transferring then into sales for Westburne Canada & next to the Vehicle Recycling business. In 1989, Merv & his wife Eileen along with his son Kevin & Kevin's girlfriend, Kim Miller, moved to Kamloops to open Kamloops Recycled Truck & Auto Parts. He and Eileen enjoyed being snowbirds for years and worked at trying to improve their golf games.
Kim and her dad spent many enjoyable years riding their horses together as they were "buddies". He took her on the Cattle Drive in 1995 which created life long memories and stories. She was her dad's girl.
Merv and Kevin enjoyed salmon fishing every August on Vancouver Island and they hunted every fall with grandsons and later ice fishing with friends. He was retired for several years but would show up at the business to make sure they were all doing things the way he thought they should be done. Merv had many sayings about life and would say "It Is What It Is" as he always faced everything "head on".
We will forever miss and love him. He was a special husband, dad, brother, grandpa and friend who loved and cared for all of us
very deeply.
May God bless him and
welcome him home.
Should friends so desire, a donation (if you are so inclined) to the B.C. Cancer Agency would be greatly appreciated.
