It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Donald Angus ‘Duck’ MacKeigan at home, after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis on Wednesday, July 10, 2013.
Born in 1942, in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late John Robert and Mildred (Lahey) MacKeigan.
Donnie was employed with MT&T until his retirement in 1998 and was a lifetime member of Aliant Pioneers. In his younger years, Donnie was an avid baseball and hockey player. He was a member of Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines.
He will be sadly missed by his best friend and caregiver, Virginia. Donnie is survived by brothers, George (Virginia), Harold (Judy), Glace Bay, Carl (Chris), Lower Sackville; sisters, Rhodena Spencer, Marguerite Brushett, Glace Bay, Annie Fraser, Sydney, Mary Costard (Ralph), Shubenacadie along with many nieces and nephews.
Donnie was predeceased by brothers, John, Earl, Gordon and Robert.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Martha MacDonald is Saturday at 2 p.m. in Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines, followed by interment in Gordon United Cemetery. A reception will follow at McDonald Hall directly below the church.
The family would like to thank palliative care doctors and nurses for their wonderful care they gave to Donnie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to palliative care or the VON.
