THOMPSON, Louis Aubrey “Lou” – 92, Truro. It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce Lou’s passing on Friday, July 12, 2013, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born February 11, 1921, in Truro, he was a son of the late James and Edith (Roddick) Thompson. Lou was a musician and enlisted in Canadian Army in 1939 as a Bandsman and during his six years in the service he played in several military bands and orchestras. Following his discharge, he joined C.N.R.A. Quintet, a popular dance band in the sixties and seventies where he played clarinet and saxophone for 28 years. He was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Truro, where he served as treasurer for 13 years. He was a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and was employed by several firms in the Truro area including Margolians, Wilson’s Fuels, Nelson Motors, Moffatt Bros., and then founded Thompson’s Accounting Services, which his son continues to operate. He was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. Lou and his late wife, Shirley, spent many happy times at their summer home at Shortt’s Lake and also traveled extensively. Lou is survived by his sons, Bruce (Jo Anne), Roy; grandchildren, Krista and Justin Thompson; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Milligan); sister, Doris Thompson; brother, Jim. The family acknowledges the great care given and compassion shown to Lou by his caregivers: Sharon Loughead, Val Nelson, Denise Parker, Angelina Chisholm, Linda Roberts, Sandy Lang, Joyce Duguay. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, will conduct a Legion Tribute Service 6:45 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2013, followed by visitation from 7-9 p.m., and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013. Reception will follow. Interment in Terrace Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Lou’s memory to Colchester SPCA or a charity of choice are welcomed.
