It is with broken hearts, that we announce the passing of Gregory Hibbs, due to a tragic drowning in Ingonish on Wednesday, July 10th, 2013.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of John A. MacDonald and Necole Hibbs.
Gregory had a very successful year at Southside School and would be attending Ovec school in the fall for grade nine. He enjoyed skateboarding, snowboarding, various other sports and taking trips to Ontario. He had a wide variety of friends from all over the island who are devastated by his sudden death. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Gregory made a lasting impression on those he came in contact with through his great sense of humour and charm.
Besides his parents, Gregory is survived by his grandmother, Clarice MacDonald, with whom he resided; grandfather, Robert K. Hibbs (Jeannie); his sister, Sara Hibbs; brother, Colby Hibbs; aunts, Denise, Cori (Dougie), Leanne (James), Alicia (Rick) MacDonald, Candea Hibbs; uncles, Robbie, Gary, Craig MacDonald, Nicholas, Anthony Hibbs and many cousins.
Gregory was predeceased by his brother, Devon; maternal grandmother, Linda Wadden; paternal grandfather, Robert K. MacDonald and his uncle, Kenny MacDonald.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Norman MacPhee is Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Holy Cross Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery. Reception will be held in the church hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Gregory, memorial donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
