CORNEY: It is with sad regret to announce the passing of Andrew Richmond Corney. Andy was born on March 24th 1930 in Regina Sk. He was the youngest son of John and Katrina Corney. It was in Regina that he met the love of his life, Irene Marion Schick. Irene and Andy were wed on Oct 28, 1950. In 1951 he wrote the first of 2 songs for his Wife, entitled "Tell Me" which he recorded on a 78 record. They started to build their family and were blessed with 6 girls. Then on June 10, 1965 they were blessed with a son. That was Dad's biggest wish, to have a Son. Dad's ball team was complete, short a couple fielder's but that was OK, cause it was a dam good team!!!! In Andy's younger years, he was a Sea Cadet and was later a Private in the in the Army reserve. Andy had many fields of work as a truckdriver, salesman, plumber and lastly with Canada Post, until his retirement after 22 years plus. Andy was a BIG sports fan. He loved baseball, football and hockey. He played fastball with the Merchants and Pioneer Co-op fastball team for many years. He travelled many a mile to play ball in Canada and the US. He coached his Daughter's softball teams, the Sportsmans Den Tornados, Wanda's girls hockey team, and his son, Andy Jr's Ball Teams as well as the Men Roadway Inn Embassitors Team. He was a big fan of The Toronto Blue Jays, Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Maple Leafs. He spent many hours with Irene, watching all the sports on TV. Both Irene and Andy loved all sports and kept up on all the stats. He loved to golf with his son and the boys, and taught his daughters a few tips on the golf course. He was always grateful for the opportunity to attend some major league sports events with his kids. Other activities he enjoyed were bowling, shuffleboard, playing pool, shaking his hips on the dance floor and many competitive games of cribbage with his kids. Andy loved to travel with his wife of almost 63 years and their adventures took them on many bus tours with Excel Bus lines, trip to Hawaii for their 40th wedding anniversary, compliments of their nephew Bob, on a Mexican cruise, down to New Orleans, across Canada to visit their kids and most recently to Las Vegas and Arizona. Dad was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Prairie Pioneers Kiwanis Club. Dad was known for his sense of humor and contagious laugh and his constant teasing. Andy is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Irene Corney, 6 Daughters, Star (Rick) Fisher and their children Traci and Keri; Wendy Martin and her children Leah and Douglas; Val (Dennis) Hoffart and their son Drew; Andrea (Dennis) Maser and their children Kate, Michael, Tamara and Josh; Heather Wiebe (Floyd Olsen) and daughter Nicki and sons Kalin and Mitchell; Wanda (Glen) Leavins and their children Brock and Blair and daughter-in-law Terri Corney and her daughters Hannah and Abby. Andy was survived by 16 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his special nephew, Bob Smiley who was like a son to him, sister-in-law Reginald Holmes, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rita and Norman Schick, many nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by a son Andrew Corney Jr in 2004, grandson Taylor Hoffart in 2003, son-in-law Rick Martin in 2005, and daughter's partner, Richard Feil in 2007. He was also predeceased by his father John, mother Katrina, brothers Jack and Casey and sister Dorothy, mother and father-in-law Adam and Caroline Schick, and brother-in-law Harold Schick. A Memorial Service was held Monday, July 15, 2013 at 11:00 am from First United Church with Kelly Griffner officiating. The Piper was Neil McCrie. The Ushers were Andy's grandsons Doug Martin, Drew Hoffart, Mike Maser, Josh Maser, Kalin Wiebe Mitchell Wiebe and Brock Leavins. Life Tribute and Special Memories were presented by Andy's family. The Interment Service took place at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
