Suddenly at Union, P.E.I., as the result of a highway accident on Tuesday, July 23, 2013, of Douglas Lloyd Matthews of Northport, age 54 years. Born at Alberton on July 23, 1959, he was the son of the late Glenn and Thirza (nee Dunbar) Matthews. Dear father to Cheryl McNeill (Jason Butler) of Alberton and Rebecca Matthews of Northport. Loving grandfather to Brianna, Bailey, Aubrey, Avery Butler. Brother to Donnie (Phyllis) of Northport and Blair (Carol) of Northport. He is also survived by a sister in-law, Sharon Matthews of Lennox Island. He will be sadly missed by his nephews and nieces, Mark and Chad Matthews, Jody (Sonny Gaudet) and Tanya Matthews, Kent, Krista (deceased), Jeremy (deceased), Jeffery and Faith Matthews. He is survived by his many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Lovingly remembered by special friends, Margo Dorey, Lynn McNeill, Marissa McKendrick and Jeffery McNeill. He was predeceased by his parents, and by a brother Allan. Resting at the Rooney Funeral Home Alberton. Visiting hours Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral on Saturday afternoon from the Gordon Memorial United Church, Alberton, at 2 p.m., Rev. Lynn McKinnon officiating. Interment later in Hillcrest Cemetery, Alberton. If so desired, memorials to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of your choice would be gratefully appreciated.
