It is with much regret and sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Helen Smith of Indian Brook, Victoria County, after a lengthy illness.
Catherine was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Sydney, daughter of the late Alex and Mary (MacInnis) Shaw of Baddeck.
Catherine was an avid sports fan, and a die-hard Toronto Maple Leafs fan, a great community-minded person, giving help wherever it was needed especially to the North Shore Volunteer Fire Dept. and St. Anns’ Bay United Church.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Felix Smith, Indian Brook, Connie and Colin Smith, Wagmatcook; the light of her life, her grandchildren, Sunnie, Starr, Skye, Keeghan and Bhreagh; and step-grandchildren, Darian, Karly, Felix, Jolita and Alannah. Also survived by brothers, Dan N. 'Bubby' (Kay), Rhyburn (Debby), Kenny (Gwen) and Jamie (Charlene); sisters-in-law, Murdena MacRae, Shirley Hefferon and Chrissie MacEachern and brother-in-law, Bert Whitty; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Alex Shaw, her husband, Angus and her grandson, Hunter.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 30, 2-9 p.m. at St. Anns’ Bay United Church, Indian Brook. Funeral will be held Wednesday, 2 p.m. in St. Anns’ Bay United Church with Rev. Hazel Morris officiating. Interment in Pinehill Cemetery, River Bennett. Reception in Church Tea Room following committal.
Donations in memory of Catherine may be made to Pinehill Cemetery.
The family also requests that everyone "pays it forward” at least once this week in Catherine’s honour.
