John William Lyle Enslow, 82, of Lawrencetown, and formerly North Sydney, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on July 27, 2013, at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Born in Osborne, N.S., he was a son of the late Clarence and Sarah Enslow.
John began his career early, first going to sea at the young age of 13. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a recipient of the United Nations service medal while serving with the Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment of Canada. The latter part of his career was spent working with the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, and up until his 81st year he worked with the Canadian Corp of Commissionaires. John was also a longtime member of the Armstrong Legion Branch #19, North Sydney.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Frank) Brake, Merri-Sue (Rev. John) Hannem, Catherine (William) Dunn; grandchildren, Karen, Stacey, David, Alex, Denise, Mark and Kate; great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Owen, Samuel, Benjamin, Matthew, Lukus and Rosemary.
He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Catherine 'Kaye' and second wife Grace, sons, John and Daniel, brother, James, parents-in-law, Cordella and Daniel Penticost as well as several children in infancy.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3 in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. A reception will follow in Calvary Baptist Church hall, 6 Beech St., North Sydney. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the choir fund at Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney.
