Arlene Ruth Harrison

Harrison, Arlene Ruth, 72, of Truro, Nova Scotia. After a three-year battle with cancer Arlene passed away on Monday, August 5, 2013 at home. Born in Glenhome and living most of her life in the Town of Truro, she was the daughter of late Harold and Phyllis (Nolan) Harrison. Arlene lived a mostly quiet life, working in the insurance business for the majority of her career years, and enjoying the duties and interaction with children as a neighborhood crossing-guard prior to her retirement. In years gone by, she maintained a happy athleticism and sociality in various local bowling, and ladies softball leagues. She was a strong believer in sharing what good fortune her humble life could afford, and gave time, energy, and money to a variety of charities and causes throughout her life; of most recent note, her work with the Colchester Food Bank. Family, friends, and acquaintances will remember her as friendly, kind, generous, and fun.
Never married, or having children of her own, she is survived by her loving niece Amy Davidson (Halifax, Nova Scotia), adoring nephew Jason Davidson (Toronto, Ontario), and her beloved grandnephew Uriel Hardy-Davidson (Toronto, Ontario).
Besides her parents, Arlene was predeceased by a sister Brenda (Harrison) Davidson.
No visitation or funeral service by family request. Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. If friends and acquaintances wish to make tribute to her memory, donations may be made to the Colchester East Hants Health Authority Palliative Home Care Service, or to the Colchester East Hants V.O.N. -who have given us so much support these past few months, much thanks ladies and gents-, the local Truro branch, or the Provincial Branch of the Canadian Red Cross, -whose health equipment loan program made a big difference to her comfort-, The Colchester Food Bank, -a project that was very near and dear to her heart in her later years-, or a cause that is near and dear to your heart. She wasn’t necessarily out to change the world, but she was always willing to help her corner of it along where she could. Private messages of condolence may be sent to the family by viewing Arlene’s obituary on-line and selecting “Send a Condolence” at: www.mattatallvarnerfh.com
