Stuart Murray
MURRAY, Cdr. (ret'd) STUART - Former newspaperman and retired Navy Commander, Stu Murray, 89, died in Nanaimo on July 30. Born and raised in Saint John, a veteran of the Second World War and Korea, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy at 17 and worked as a coder aboard a corvette in the North Atlantic. Post war, Stu graduated from Carleton University’s School of Journalism and returned to Saint John as a reporter for the Telegraph Journal. He rejoined the Navy in Halifax as an Information Officer and ended his career in Ottawa as Director of Information for Transport Canada. Stu is survived by his second wife, Edie (Patton) and her extended family, daughter Andria Gillespie (Mike), grandchildren Sara, Stuart and Kyle, and brothers Robert of Ottawa and Ralph of Saint John. He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn (Murchison) and son David.
An inurnment will take place in Saint John in the fall.
