MELVIN, MAISIE DOROTHY - It is with great sadness that the family of Maisie Melvin of Carleton Kirk Lodge, Saint John, formerly of Lingley Lane, Saint John West, wife of the late Kenneth Melvin, announces her death, which occurred peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2013, at her residence. Born on May 3, 1915 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret MacPherson. Maisie was a faithful member of St. Mark's United Church, where she was active in the UCW and choir. She was a founding member of the Carleton Ladies Curling Club and also belonged to the Westfield Golf and Country Club. Most of all, Maisie treasured her time spent with her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She will always be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She is survived by her daughter, Jean Murray of Saint John; brothers, Douglas MacPherson (Betty) and Alastair MacPherson (Phoebe), both of Saint John; daughter-in-law, Joanne Hamilton (Oral) of Quispamsis; grandchildren, Scott Murray (Jennifer) and Shari Carey (Marc), both of Saint John, Mark Melvin (Jennifer) of North Carolina and Keith Melvin (Sue) of Quispamsis; great-grandchildren, Hayley, Ashley and Julia Murray, Emma, Maddy and Kelty Carey, Alice and Claire Melvin and Luke Melvin; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Douglas; sisters, Margaret and Isabelle; and brothers, Donald and Alexander.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan's Bay View Funeral Home, 1461 Manawagonish Road, Saint John (634-7425), with visitation on Monday, August 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's United Church, 50 Dexter Drive, Saint John, on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 2:00 pm, immediately followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery, Saint John. For those who wish, remembrances made to St. Mark's United Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of NB or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
