Snook, Dorothy Jane (Heartz), Truro, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 18, 2013 at her home in Truro, Nova Scotia, in her 89th year. Born in Montreal, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Pauline Heartz. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband John in 1994. She is survived by her sons, Dick and David; grandson J.D. and daughter-in-law, Susan; sister, Julia (Dooley) Heartz, Toronto, ON. Dorothy was a beautiful proud and gracious lady and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her. She was the first woman to graduate in engineering from Queen’s University in 1946.Dorothy’s family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who cared for her the past five months, Carol, Annette, Cindy and Elaine, also many thanks to Dr. Harold Berghuis and the VON for their wonderful care. A private family service will be held. A reception will take place at the Holiday Inn, 437 Prince Street in Truro on Thursday evening, August 22, between the hours of 7 to 9 pm. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Truro VON or the SPCA in Truro. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro.
