George Frederick (Fred) Muirhead, 73, of Merigomish and New Glasgow passed away Friday August 23 at home. Born March 30 1940 in Thorburn he was the son of the late George Muirhead and Mary (Browning) Muirhead.
He spent much of his life in Merigomish, a well-known carpenter who worked for MacDougall Construction and Tri Mac for 30 years. His work took him across Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, and Newfoundland. He loved the woods, enjoyed hunting and fishing and also gardening, he especially loved roses. Fred is survived by his wife Lorna, a son Frederick (Susan), Scotsburn; a daughter Tammy, Rossfield; a grand daughter Cassie Muirhead; a grandson Josh Crew, a sister Kay Bowman, New Glasgow; also survived by step-daughter Shelley (Lynwood) Bryden, Eureka; step-son Kris (Shelia) Fagan, Sylvester; and five step-grandchildren Tim; Molly; Erin Bryden; Samantha and Jessica Fagan;
He was predeceased by a son Robbie Muirhead.
Fred was dearly loved and greatly missed by Lorna and his babies Tigger, Pepper and Toby.
His remains will rest at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the H.W. Angus Funeral Home Chapel With The Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson Officiating. Burial will take place at the Riverview Cemetery in Merigomish.
