Willard “Wid” Wood
The peaceful passing of Willard “Wid” James Wood age 92 of Oxford, NS occurred on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Upper Nappan, NS.
Born August 26, 1921 in Amherst Head, NS, Wid was a son of the late Robert and Jerusha (Matheson) Wood.
As a young hard working individual, Wid began his career as a painter in Amherst and surrounding areas. Later he owned and operated a trucking business for 17 years, from where he continued to enjoy his skills in interior, exterior and decorating until his retirement in 1987.
Wid also found great comfort in gardening and was the proud recipient of several first place ribbons at the Cumberland County Exhibition.
Wid will be lovingly remembered by his step granddaughter, Jillian Oderkirk, Ottawa, ON; nephew, Bruce (Nora) Wood, Sackville, NB; niece, Jean (Brian) Wood, Sackville, NB; as well as extended family.
In addition to his parents, Wid was predeceased by his wife, Catherine J. (nee King) Wood; brothers, Walter, Richie, Wylie, John and Archie in infancy; sisters, Louise Webber and Doris Wood.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, Amherst, NS (667-9906)
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11 am from Head of Amherst Cemetery with Mrs. Ruth Gamble, DLM, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wid’s memory may be made to the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Palliative Care Unit or charity of your choice.
