It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Joan (Croke) Simms. She slipped quietly into the arms of Jesus after a 3 year battle with cancer surrounded by her family at her residence in Georgetown. She is predeceased by her husband Thomas, her parents: Thomas and Margaret Croke, two brothers: James and Thomas and sister-in-law, Philomena. Left with beautiful memories are her loving and caring companion, Jack Noseworthy, six sons: Thomas (Ruby Mugford), Gary (Sharon), Francis (Jody), Blair (Bev), Corey (Deana) and Jason (Dawn), seven daughters: Veronica Legge, Mary (Fred) Stevenson, Maureen (Yomi) Bode-Harrison, Christine (Cecil) Spracklin, Gail (Vince Bartlett), Jacqueline (Stephen Maze) Simms and Lorraine (James Whelan). Missing Nan, but forever in their hearts, are 29 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Mary (the late Cliff McHugh) and Sue (the late Gerry MacDonald) and her brother Jack. Our "brudder from another mudder" Ern Linthorne, nieces and nephews from the Croke and McHugh family, and especially her niece Virginia McHugh, who visited Mom daily, her many friends and neighbours and last but not least Rusty the dog. Resting at Broughton's Funeral Home, Brigus with visitation on Monday from 12 - 9 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., Wednesday from 10 a.m.- 1 p.m. and as a celebration of her life, Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, Brigus on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers are gratefully accepted or donations made to Janeway Children's Hospital on behalf of Martin Croke.
