It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frances Nolan, age 61, of Glace Bay on Sept. 12, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Frances was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anna (McKenzie) Nolan.
Frances was educated in the Glace Bay schools and continued her education at the University of Guelph, Ontario, where she obtained her culinary training. She then moved to Mississauga, Ont.
Frances was a chef by trade and was head chef at King Gardens Retirement Villa in Mississauga, Ont., retiring from there after 20 years of service. She then relocated back to the Glace Bay area.
Frances enjoyed aqua fit and loved to play bingo.
Frances will be sadly missed by her son, David (Rebecca), Glace Bay; sisters, Florence (Tommy) Tompkins, Bridgeport, Patricia Nolan (Terry McVarish), Glace Bay, Cathy (Gordon) Hann, Glace Bay; brothers, Michael (Sharlyn) Nolan, B.C., Fred Nolan, Ont. Also surviving are cousins, Karen and John Morrison, Glace Bay, numerous nieces and nephews and canine best friend, Buddy, who will miss her dearly.
Besides her parents, Frances was predeceased by her best friend, Judy Deegan, special aunt, Isabel McNeil and nephew, Joe McVarish.
Visitation for Frances will be held on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
