SAVOIE , JOSEPH BENOÎT RENÉ - Fredericton - Friday, September 13, 2013, 88 year old Mr. Joseph Benoît René Savoie, B.A., B.Sc., of Fredericton, NB. He was the son of the late Adélard Savoie and the late Angélique Robichaud. He is survived by his wife Helena (Eileen) Landrigan; his five children, Renée (Ian MacPherson), Étienne (Louise Renault), Jean-Guy (Judith Chouinard), Adèle (Marek Swiatek), and Daniel (Suzie Board); ten grandchildren, Sara, Julien, Nicole, Gabriel, Sean, François, Catherine, Ben, Daniel, and Nathalie; and a brother, Armand (Dolorès Hamel), of Ottawa, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers: Émile, Rev. Edmond, Joseph, Léonard, Albert and Roméo; and six sisters, Zella, Sr. Anna, D.E.J., Rina, Sr. Corinne, F.J., Sr. Sara, F.J. and Sr. Albertine Savoie, F.J. Born in Shippagan on 17 December 1924, René studied at the Sacred Heart University in Bathurst and Laval University. Employed at the Federal Department of Fisheries from 1949 to 1956, he transferred to the Federal Ministry of Health until 1965. He retired from the Department of Fisheries of New Brunswick in 1988.
Resting at the McAdam's Funeral Home, York Street, Fredericton, NB on Monday, September 16, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 17, 2013, at noon, at Ste-Anne-des-Pays-Bas Parish church. A reception will follow. For those who wish, donations in memory of René may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Interment will be at the Hermitage Cemetery, Fredericton. www.mcadamsfh.com
