Stramberg “Stran” Jenkins
Stramberg “Stran” Murray Jenkins, 89, of the Northumberland Veteran’s Wing, Pictou, formerly of MacLellan’s Brook, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Born May 8, 1924 in Trenton, NS, he was the eldest son of the late Ephraim and Agnes (Tanner) Jenkins.
He served in the Army during the Second World War and worked at Westinghouse in Hamilton, Ontario. He returned home to Nova Scotia in 1959 starting his own business, The Home Stretch Meat Market in Blue Acres which he operated until his retirement.
He was a lifetime member of the Keith Masonic Lodge No. 23 in Stellarton, a member of the UCT, as well as a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 28 in Stellarton. He was an avid traveller, having travelled all over the world with his wife Esther. He also loved hunting, fishing and curling.
He is survived by his son Lennard Sr., daughter-in-law Carolyn, a daughter-in-law Evonne, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, brothers: George, Fred, Fraser, Gordon; sisters, Catherine, Ontario; Cheryl; nieces, nephews and his companion Rita Sample.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years Esther Robertson, sons: Glendon, Stephan, Harold; a daughter Tobey, grandson Mark; brothers: Roy, Walter, Norman; sisters: Belle, Carol and Helen.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow for visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday (today) from where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Charles McPherson presiding. Burial will take place in the Thorburn Cemetery.
A Masonic service will be held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday (today) followed by a Legion service at 6:45 p.m.
