Date de décès : 15 septembre 2013

Jerome 'Jerry' William Aucoin, 78, of St. Joseph du Moine, Inverness Co., passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters and siblings at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Cheticamp on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013.
Dad was born in Terre Noire; he was the son of the late George and Marie Aucoin. He was an incredibly kind hearted, generous, protective and loving father and grandfather. Dad always maintained a positive attitude in the face of adversity and he was a pillar of strength. He had a love for life and was an active member of the communities of St. Joseph du Moine and Cheticamp. He always said there was "No place like home."
For many years, Dad had been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the St. Joseph du Moine Volunteer fire department.
Dad served with the Royal Canadian Navy in the Korean War, where he proudly worked as a cook. He also worked in construction in Waltham, Mass. and finally he worked as a talented mason. Dad was a hard worker and excelled at creating works of art with stones.
Dad's passion was singing and he loved attending talent night at the Doryman Tavern. He also enjoyed a great game of crib. He was a sharp player who loved to skunk his crib buddy, Uncle Bernie, as often as he could. Dad was also an avid sports fan. He once enjoyed coaching the NDA high school hockey team. He cheered on his favourite teams, the Yankees, the Patriots, the Eskimos and of course his beloved Detroit Red Wings.
Dad is survived by daughters, Janice, Brenda (Chuck) Carter, Lucille (Kevin) Macquarrie; he was cherished by his grandchildren, Jeremy, Mary Beth, William, Noah and Ava, all of Halifax. The kids always had good times with Pepère otherwise known as "Peeps". He is fondly remembered by his siblings, Nora, Sister Ann, George (Rita), Harriet, Wilfred (Donna), Arthur, Theodore (Annette); many nephews, nieces and friends.
Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife, Marie Hilda and his brother, John.
We wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Harbourview Veteran's Facility in Sydney Mines. During his stay there, Dad was able to form close friendships with fellow residents and members of the staff. We also wish to thank the compassionate staff of the Sacred Heart Hospital in Cheticamp, who were very comforting to our family during this difficult time.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Cheticamp Funeral Home, Cheticamp. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19 in St. Joseph's Church, St. Joseph du Moine. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to La Paroisse Saint-Joseph, the Sacred Heart Hospital Charitable Foundation or a charity of your choice.
Condolences may be sent to cheticampfuneral@ns.aliantzinc.ca.
