Maurice Pierce
PIERCE, REV. MAURICE C.S.B - passed away peacefully on august 27, 2013 at Hospice of Windsor, Ontario surrounded by his sister and confreres. Born in Saint John August 25, 1930 he was the son of L. Urben and Dolores (Mullaney) Pierce. He was a graduate of St. Thomas University, Chatham NB where he was first introduced to the Congregation of St. Basil. He was professed August 15, 1952 and ordained June 1957. He taught at St. Thomas High School in Houston Texas, St. Michael’s College in Toronto and was a founding member of St. Mary’s College Sault Ste. Marie Ont. He worked in prison ministry in Kingston while teaching at Queen’s University and at age 65 he became involved with parish ministry particularly with Cursillo, Alpha, Serendipity and bible study groups. In his mid seventies be became a member of the Apostleship of the Sea as a chaplain on various cruise lines until failing health caused him to retire in 2012. Fr. Pierce is survived by his sister Elizabeth Pierce, Saint John, sister-in-law Suzanne Pierce, Mississauga, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother James B. Pierce and sister Anne Marie Cimonetti.
Visitation was held at Janisse Funeral Home, Ouellette Ave. Windsor Funeral mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church Windsor. Ont. Internment followed at Heavenly Rest Cemetery on August 30, 2013.
